You need not walk this path alone |
Might you or your child have anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, or a less specific form of eating disorder? Are you at a loss for how to respond? Are you seeking treatment for yourself or your child? Do you need assistance in finding expert care? Might you or your child already be in treatment, but feel discouraged in not having made sufficient progress towards a sustainable recovery? Or, might you be a treating professional seeking to learn more about the distinct challenges involved in the treatment of these disorders?
If your answers to these questions are "Yes," you have come to the right place. This is an advocacy site, educating and mentoring you so that you can use yourself knowledgeably, constructively and confidently in becoming an advocate for yourself or your child in beating these disorders.
Eating disorders are fully curable in 80 percent of cases when recognized and treated in an effective and timely manner. Integrative by nature, anorexia and bulimia adversely affect every aspect of a person's existence...far beyond eating and weight management. Though these diseases take up residence within the individual, they make their strong and divisive presence felt throughout the family system. Recovery from anorexia, bulimia and other types of eating disorders promises emotional versatility, the capacity to cope more effectively with life's demands and challenges, and the resumption of healthy relationships and life quality that comes with the reintegration of the core self. How we eat is how we live.
The tools and strategies you will find here WORK...they are the product of 42 years of my professional experience treating eating disordered individuals and their families. Be assured that though the personal journey towards recovery may at times prove difficult, the personal rewards in the end will be well worth the effort. Victims of eating disorders get their lives back; parents and families get their loved one back; treating professionals experience a most profound sense of gratification.
